Who We Are

Friends of Belle Meade Boulevard is a nonprofit organization established by alarmed neighbors who care deeply about the safety and beauty of the Boulevard and have serious concerns about the creation of the “Boulevard Beautification and Pedestrian Plan,” which will reshape the entire length of Belle Meade Boulevard and narrow its traffic lanes to make room for a dangerous pedestrian walkway along the median. This unsafe approach significantly increases pedestrian use of Belle Meade Boulevard without increasing safety measures.

  • SAFETY | Safety is our highest priority, and the “Boulevard Beautification and Pedestrian Plan” does not present the safest option to improvements. The plan dramatically increases the numbers of pedestrians along the Boulevard, without changing the safety measures. Belle Meade City Hall should consider impactful and proven alternatives, such as the enforcement of existing regulations, traffic calming measures and increased signage so that Belle Meade Boulevard remains safe, functional and beautiful.
  • COMMUNITY | Those who will be most impacted by this plan - the residents along Belle Meade Boulevard and nearby streets - demand a voice in this conversation. Residents assert that Belle Meade City Hall planning must include input from FOBMB representatives and include participation in all meetings or decisions about Belle Meade Boulevard.
  • RESPECT FOR HISTORY | Belle Meade Boulevard is an historic jewel for Middle Tennessee, and its iconic medians were designed as a scenic gateway to the entrance of Percy Warner Park. Belle Meade Boulevard’s medians define our city and represent our community’s commitment to the preservation of green spaces for all to enjoy. Belle Meade City Hall must reject the current plan which would yield severe reductions to the historic green medians, and a complete disregard of the important history of the space.
